Last week during my driving duties for the kids’ practices, I could feel the anxiety building as the usual questions popped into my head. I’m starving, and I don’t have a lot of time before their practice. What to eat? And what will the kids eat? I didn’t want to be one of those parents who shows up late with their kids showing little or no energy.
Which brings me to today at work…staring at this delicious-looking bread in a nice package. It’s an early morning and I’m not as rushed, so I turned it over to look at the nutrition labels and realized I was still too lazy to go through all of this. The temptation was to just grab it, bring it with me to the truck, and eat it when the time was right.
Now working on Cityline for as long as I have, clearly I should be an expert on these things. But when you’re on the go as much as I am, you tend to revert back to old habits. Luckily Dr. Joey Shulman happened to be in the office prepping for an upcoming Cityline episode, and she took the time to tell me that the bread I was about to choose wasn’t bad, but that it would make her feel a little sleepy, and perhaps a better alternative would be a multi-grain bread like Stonemill’s 12-grain bread. A little more nutritious option, and one that would give me more energy.
Thanks for the health snack tip, Joey! This made me realize I needed much more of this type of info! More options! My own personal guide on how to handle the food and nutrition angle for Dads on the Go. Stay tuned.
