A 4 Step Tutorial For A Classic 90's Blowout

[bc_video video_id="6257435647001" account_id="2226196965001" player_id="rkljM4WDEg"] Let’s play a game of guess the decade! Listen carefully to your clues: Chain wallets, bleached tips, combat boots, slip dresses, bucket hats…Have you figured it out yet? It’s the 90s of course! Believe it or not folks the 90’s is back in fashion in a big way. A 90’s blowout has volume and layers and movement in the way we haven’t seen for quite some time. Follow each step below to get the viral hair trend. Step 1: On damp hair add a light styling gel or mousse at the roots This will help to build the volume at the roots which is what will keep your hair full. Adding a little salt or texture spray to the mid lengths will give a little added grip or texture for an all-day hold. Click the image below if you want some natural beachy waves! Step 2: Rough dry style your hair with either a blow-dryer and round brush, or a hairdryer brush  This is a hairdryer brush. These have become increasingly popular again over the last few years and what’s great about them is that you aren’t sitting there pulling in one hand with a round brush and in the other hand holding the blow-dryer. Instead, it’s the idea of just pulling the hair with the brush itself as it dries. A hairdryer brush won’t give a professional finish to the hair, but in this case, we just need to dry the hair to be honest, because we we’re going to let the Velcro rollers do most of the heavy lifting. If you don’t have a hairdryer brush you can always go traditional using a round brush and blow-dryer. A metal brush will actually give more volume to a blow-dry so if you like a metal brush, now is the time to use it over a boar bristle brush. Be gentle when using a metal brush as they can sometimes tear the hair. Step 3:  Use Velcro rollers throughout the hair and set the hair  Time to pull out those Velcro rollers we haven’t seen in ages! Click the image below for a roller pack fit for all levels of curl! Jason’s Tip: Roll all of the rollers under the hair. The great thing about rollers is that if you roll the rollers under, the hair can flip out or the hair can flip under any which way you want once you take them out. if you flip them upwards, they’ll only flip out. Also the top roller should go off the face so that it can go any direction once taken out Next, once the hair has been set, spray a ‘thermal spray’ or a flexible hairspray all over the rollers and blast it with some heat of a blow-dryer. You just need a blast of heat for a few minutes. This will allow the cuticle to open up and take the shape of the rollers for when it sets. Step 4: Let the hair cool and brush out hair Let it all cool down for around 3-5 minutes and then take out the rollers. Here’s a great opportunity to brush the hair out with a big paddle brush which will also help to break up the lines between the rollers. Once you’ve finished brushing out the hair, you’ll already be super excited by the voluminous blowout, but something that is a new technique would be to spray texture spray through the inside root area which will give all day added volume. Position the hair the way you want and then finish with a finishing cream and hairspray for hold. Voila! You have the coolest 90s blowout, perfect for a walk down memory lane, or a first time go at it gen z style! For maximum hold, we recommend the product below!

A DIY Herb Garden For Summer Cocktails

[bc_video video_id="6257437618001" account_id="2226196965001" player_id="rkljM4WDEg"] If you’re worried about running out of herbs this summer, you don’t have to! DIY Expert Christian Dare shows how to make a DIY herb garden that can fit into the smallest of spaces. What you’ll need:
  • A Wood Board 1x2 inches by 8 feet
  • IKEA Luroy Bed Slats
  • 2” Wood Screws
  • A Power Drill with a drill bit
  • Outdoor Paint or Stain
  • Containers
  • A Paintbrush
  • Potting Soil
  • And Herbs
Step 1: Cut your wood board into two pieces Take the 1-inch-by-2-inch-by-8-foot wood board and cut two pieces that measure 27 ½ inches long. (The same width as the twin IKEA bed slats.) Tip: This is a great project if you have old bed slats where some have broken. You can upcycle them into this wall garden. Step 2: Drill pilot holes Drill a pilot hole approximately 4 inches from each end of the board. Moving on to the bed slats, drill a pilot hole 3 inches from each end of the first slat. Then take some scissors and trim the bottom of the bed slats to a height that suits you. (We removed four slats from ours.) Tip: Be sure to pre-drill to avoid splitting your wood planks We recommend this drill for all of your pre-drill needs, click the image below for more information. Step 3: Paint all your boards First, give everything a light sand. Next paint your two boards that will attach to your wall, and then your bed slats. Paint both sides for better protection and be sure to use exterior paint or stain. Tip: Sanding will not only prevent splinters but will help the wood absorb the colour more evenly. Tip: Two coats of paint or stain are ideal for best weather protection. For a great sanding solution, we recommend the product below! Click the image for more information. Step 4: Drill the board to your fence or wall using 2-inch wood screws  Secure the bed slats to the top baton by screwing through the slat into the board with a 2-inch screw. Take the second board and line it up with the bottom slat, and then mark where the top of the board sits along the fence with a pencil. Repeat the same steps we did for the top board for the bottom board, and attach the bottom baton to the fence. Secure the last slat to the baton with a 2-inch screw on both sides. Tip: If hanging on a brick wall you'll need to drill the holes in the wall using a masonry drill bit first. Use screws/plugs for masonry. Step 5: Add your plants!  Take some hanging pots (we used IKEA Sunnersta containers, which fit onto the slats perfectly) and place them along the slats in an arrangement that suits you. If you are installing this vertical herb garden outdoors, drilling holes into the bottom of each of the pot is great for proper drainage. Add in a piece of landscape fabric – or scrap fabric – to the bottom of each pot. Add in some potting rich soil (Ones with fertilizer already added in are amazing). And now it’s time to plant some herbs- just don’t forget to water them. Tip: If you want a cocktail inspired garden, plant mint, basil and rosemary Tip: If you want a foodie inspired garden, consider thyme, sage and rosemary Need a starter herb kit? 4 Popular 90s Denim Trends That Are Back In Style

[bc_video video_id="6257267481001" account_id="2226196965001" player_id="rkljM4WDEg"] Stone washed, button fly, low rise flares with no back pockets…..oh how we miss 90s denim. Let’s switch up our outfits and get out of that work from home comfy attire, denim is making a statement! Fashion Expert Janice Meredith shows us stand out denim trends. Coloured Denim You’ve been hearing it for the past few seasons - the 90s are back! With that comes coloured denim!  It makes sense as an extension of all the pastels and sorbets we were seeing in our sweat sets through the winter. Now we can find that same colour palette in our denim. The biggest tip to wear these is to treat them like a normal pair of denim. Don’t treat them as special because they are lavender. Just start wearing them with other sorbet prints or even a classic white T. Even our footwear in the summer is so minimal in coverage, that’s an easy pairing too! Don’t worry about clashing or being too matchy-matchy - just wear the sorbet jeans and have fun with them! We recommend the Straight High Ankle Jeans from H & M. White Denim   Swapping out for white jeans is an instant signal summer is here! But there are specific components to look for to ensure a flattering fit! A skinny style is great because a straight leg white you would typically find a denser more traditional denim. But the skinny cut means you are mixing fabric components. So, remember to look at the density of the fabric. Check to make sure it won’t thin or even stretch out run, which happens with the lesser quality. Pictured above are the Rachel Skinny Jeans from Yoga Jeans, which are mid range price but great quality. They have their front pockets fake and sewn up so you don’t see that second layer of solid white showing through. That’s key!! Plus, this eliminates the constant concern of adding bulk to that area. Nothing screams inexpensive jeans more than a bunch up front pocket that doesn’t lay flat. Pair with a denim jacket for a summer mixed version of the Canadian Tuxedo! Denim Dresses  Dresses are a summer staple. Pictured is below a chic boho one, the asymmetrical denim dress from Zara. While it is denim, it’s a bit softer so flows and drapes nicely! The asymmetrical cut and the unfinished hem make it stand out. It’s great for many shapes because of the hem line - it’s not short nor is it a maxi! The collar is also a flattering for the face and cleavage which we finally get to expose a wee bit of in the summer! All great details that take a regular dress into a unique item in your closet. Super easy to wear and can be paired with a comfy slide or you could dress it up with heels. Toppers These jeans below are the Casey from Pretty Little Rich Girl, which are made of recycling and organic cotton. Love the casual sexy chicness about them! In the summer, what better way than to play with lighter washes and distressing details. Also, a crocheted topper pairs well with the light-ness. Crochet is a big summer trend - again a nineties vibe and wearing a strappy kitten heel is a nice contrast to dress up the denim.
