What are the types of farmhouses?

#1: Tuscan Farmhouse — this is more of a California vineyard style look. Aged plaster walls, more antique pieces mixed into a modern space, especially Spanish ones. #2: East Coast Farmhouse – this is more traditional and rustic. More typical, white walls, wood beams, light floors, black windows (wouldn’t see as much in Tuscan), shiplap walls, this look is a little cleaner.  

How do you define Modern Farmhouse?

It’s such a trendy interior style and sometimes ends up being a bit of a blanket statement for a lot of interiors, but people may not understand what it really means. So I’d define Modern Farmhouse as:

•  It’s about comfort, spaces that are very light and bright
• All about bleached or taupe floors, natural finishes with a bit of black mixed in
• A sense of warmth and coziness to the space

Can you use the modern farmhouse look in any home?

The modern farmhouse look is really anchored by the architecture of a space. Stained beams, frame style home, more traditional look. You need some of the architectural elements to make sense with the style, which can be achieved in ways like window frames painted black, headboard on a feature wall – you need the envelope of the space to inform it. Without the architecture it’s more of a California relaxed look, which may be what you want to go for in your home.

If you don’t have the architecture that reads farmhouse, how can you get the look with furniture pieces?
