5 Beauty Expert Do's and Don'ts
[bc_video video_id="6281134294001" account_id="2226196965001" player_id="rkljM4WDEg"]
Tip #1: Don't use body lotion as a face moisturizer and definitely, don't skip moisturizing altogether.
- Skipping moisturizing altogether is never a good idea as all skin types need some form of moisture.
- When you use nothing, it creates a rebound effect where your skin becomes dry and needs more oil, which leaves you with an overabundance.
- And body lotions are not meant to moisturize the skin on our face, which is different than that of our bodies!
- Oil is NOT the enemy of your skin: it's your friend!
- Gel-based moisturizers are water-packed and have lighter structures than creams
- They also contain humectants to hold water to the skin, which means they provide hydration without a greasy finish
- This is a brightening, vitamin-C-rich gel-cream that hydrates for up to 24 hours.
- Has a peach tint that illuminates if you're not wearing any makeup, and also works under makeup!
- Using your hair mask like you would a conditioner is never the ideal way to get the most out of it.
- Slapping it on soaking wet hair in the shower for a minute and rinsing doesn't allow it to do its magic.
- You can technically do this, but I'm suggesting you go the extra mile.
- Apply to damp, towel-dried hair, comb through and either pop a shower cap on to trap in some heat OR you can use steam from the shower or a facial steamer without the cap on to help the mask better penetrate your hair.
- Lightweight hair mask that has sugar cane extract, meadowfoam seed oil and, of course, their signature fair trade shea butter.
- Going to leave you with weightless smooth, soft hair.
- No animal testing, no mineral oil, no petrolatum for your beauty checklist.
- Too many passes in one spot will cause unnecessary damage and create pockets of damage.
- Cranking up to the highest heat setting for a faster job is a terrible idea, fine hair can't take this, fragile, dry, curly hair will likely split from the damage.
- Use a lower heat setting and go over each section slower for less damaging, better way results.
- When you're looking to buy one, don't buy one with only one temperature option: it might not be for your hair type!
- Straighteners with steam can infuse moisture back into the hair, which also results in shine!
- 78% less damage than a regular straightener.
- Choose the temperature according to your hair type.
- Super cute, limited edition Barbie X Steampod collab, adds a touch of glam to your hair tool arsenal.
- We're all guilty of these: applying too much, forgetting your neck so you have two different skin tones or the heavier handed application with glittery formulas,
- Bronzing is also about an overall, sun-kissed glow and not a contoured makeup application, which is a complete other technique.
- I find gel formulas to have a much more natural, healthier look in their finish.
- Gel products can be mixed with another medium (moisturizer, serum, foundation) to give a more natural look vs. the sculpted bronze look.
- Lightweight combo of bronzing, blurring, and hydrating formula w/ hyaluronic acid.
- Customizable colour: can apply directly to the skin or mix 1 - 2 drops in your moisturizer/serum/foundation.
- Not checking your expiry dates means two things: if it's expired, it won't do its job properly AND if it's expired before you've used it, you're not wearing it enough!
- Also applying once a day because you're unsure of how to reapply over makeup.
- Mineral-based sunscreen that contains Zinc Oxide
- It's a lightweight, fast-absorbing lotion with hyaluronic acid (yay!)

4 Unique Date Night Ideas You Have To Try
[bc_video video_id="6280493116001" account_id="2226196965001" player_id="rkljM4WDEg"]
Feeling like it’s time to shake things up for date night? Now that we have a little more freedom out in the world, here are some fun and out-of-the-box ideas you can do this weekend!
I think Jamie and I have binge-watched every TV show ever made. Now that things have been somewhat back to normal, and we have no more shows left to watch, we are excited to set down the remote and try some fun new ideas!
Guess Where Trips
I will do just about anything to get out of the house! We love a road trip! In fact, a couple of weekends ago, I surprised Jamie with a fun, surprise road trip, organized by the amazing Guess Where Trips. They have trips in cities across the country from Halifax to Vancouver, with themes from butter tarts, to flowers and
wine, to quirky adventures. As well, each location lists whether it is kid or pet-friendly.
Unplug Overnight
Escaping overnight to a hotel is not exactly a new concept, but what about a night away from the house AND technology? Cozy, off-the-grid getaways are a really hot trend right now. I think it’s such a romantic idea! Look for a cabin or cottage that is near a lake or hiking trails, or, in the winter… skiing or snowshoeing! A lot of them (like Cabinscape here in Ontario) offer packages or add-ons for couples.
It’s in the Cards
Sometimes planning a date can be harder than agreeing on what show to watch. So this deck of cards called the Couples Bucket List has 100 fresh date night ideas. You can also get posters with scratch-off date ideas.
Recreate your first date
Without getting too sappy, I sort of love this one, go back in time and recreate your first date! It is such a simple way to remember that initial connection!

Looking for ways to increase your metabolism? Committing to a realistic 20-30 minute strength conditioning circuit daily, not only jump-starts your metabolism but sets the right mindset for staying active and making healthier food choices.
Implementing regular strength training into your routine will increase muscle and more muscle means a higher metabolism and more calories burned long term. Taking a full-body approach with minimal rest between exercises will increase oxygen demand, keep your heart rate up and maximize calorie expenditure.
