Use your favourite piece of art as inspiration for this great DIY project that imitates pixelated art.
Magazine option:
Materials & Tools
Masonite or Canvas Board
Magazine Pages
Paper Cutter / Scissors
Ruler & Pencil
Craft Glue & Foam Brush
Instructions
1. Find a piece of art or an image as an inspiration piece.
2. Draw a grid on the inspiration piece – with each box representing a measurement that relates to the
masonite / canvas board. For example, if the art is 8” wide and 10” tall and the masonite / canvas board is 16” by 20” – creating a ¼ grid on the art would mean each ¼” inch box (on the art) relates to ½” on the masonite / canvas board.
3. Using a pencil and ruler, lightly draw a grid on the masonite / canvas board. From the example above, the grid on the masonite / canvas board would be ½” squares.
4. Using the grid applied to the art piece as a guideline, lightly redraw the image on the masonite / canvas board.
5. Tear out pages from magazines which contain colours from your art piece. Find pages with one dominate colour to minimize cutting steps.
6. Cut pages into strips – each being the width found on the masonite / canvas board. From the example above, the width of each strip would be ½” wide.
7. Cut strips into squares. From the example above, the squares would be ½” x ½”.
8. Apply glue with foam brush onto masonite / canvas boards, and place coloured squares as shown in art piece to recreate image.
