Hilda in Medicine Hat, Alberta wrote in to ask CityLine for fashion help. She is in her 30’s, and doesn’t want to be stuck in 20’s clothing. She is unsure of age-appropriate clothing and needs help – what is too young, and what is too old?
There are many things to consider including your body type, age, and lifestyle; so CityLine expert Ingrie Williams stopped by to share some of her age-appropriate clothing tips.
When you’re in your 20’s:
Williams suggests that when in your 20’s, a polished and lady-like look is ideal. Add a bright pop of colour through your choice of accessories. Bright accessories add a “sexy” element, and if you pair it with a pair of chunky shoes it creates a bold yet professional statement.
When you’re in your 30’s:
Women in their thirties, often mothers on the go, should pick clothing that could be easily mixed-and-matched with other clothing. It makes the overall job easier in the morning, and layering a blazer adds a hint of sophistication. For shoes, a chunkier heel is great for the fashionable soccer mom; sandals add a relaxed feel on the weekend.
When you’re in your 40’s, and beyond:
Williams recommends saturated tones as they’re easy to wear. When you’re in your forties, women often like blouses that cover the arms. A nice belt brings everything together, and neutral colours look great when it comes to matching shoes and bags.
