The ombré effect has always been a popular trend in the fashion and beauty industry but has become especially popular over the last year. It has appeared in a variety of ways such as in clothing and design, but also through women’s hair. This started a new way to incorporate ombré into our look. Whether it was fading from a dark brown to a lighter brown or two contrasting colours such as brown to blonde. The ombré effect is continuing to be a growing trend and is now being seen on the runway in one of the most unique ways yet.
Derek Selby introduces us to, and gives us all the tricks and tips we need to master, the ombré lip.
We are all guilty of seeing a piece of clothing, a hairstyle, or a makeup look that we love on the runway and wanting to mimic it. But we have to be careful. The runway can be a very creative and dramatic place so it is important to find the balance between haute couture boldness and your everyday life.
Here’s what you need to know to rock this look:
First you must understand the look of ombré.
The ombré look is about the fading between two colours. These colours are meant to completely contrast each other, such as pink and red or they can even be more subtle such as a beige and a pink. Finding the right ombré for your lips is really all about the colours you like and how bold you are willing to go.
How to create the ombré look:
The trick is to outline the lips with the darker colour acting as lip liner and applying the contrasting colour on the inside of the lips.
Press your lips together softly, do not rub.
Get the runway or nighttime look:
The runway ombré look is all about finding two bold colours that really contrast each other. There are no limits. As Derek mentions, he has seen cases of black and white, orange and black and demonstrates with red and pink.
Always use a lipstick (liquid lipstick words best). Lipstick sticks to the lips much better and applies colour with a sharp look.
Once you have applied both colours, make sure to gently press your lips together rather than rubbing them.
The everyday life look:
The everyday look is still about choosing two colours that contrast each other, but less dramatically. Instead, try choosing two subtle colours, such as two shades of pinks or a beige and a pink. Instead of using lipstick try a lip gloss. Lip gloss is more transparent and will allow you to get an opaque look on the inside colour while still demonstrating the effect.
Final tips:
If you are thinking this look is for you, make sure you give yourself lots of time when trying it out. The best time to try something new out is before bed as you are already planning on taking your makeup off. You do not want to test it out before a party or date you have that night! This look may require a couple tries to master it, but hey! Practice makes perfect right?
This is a new way to spice up your makeup when you’re going out at night and a great way to add emphasis to your everyday makeup. For more suggestions from Derek, watch the video below.
