Back-combing or teasing might seem like a throwback to the 1980s, but the volume and style is back!
“People tend to back-comb like they are scratching a lottery ticket! They just go at it and end up with a bird’s nest, ” jokes hairstylist Phillipe Fiorio. There is a right and wrong way to back-comb and Phillipe has the best advice on how to achieve desirable results without damaging the hair.
To get this red carpet-worthy look, here are Phillipe’s steps:
1. Start with one section of the hair.
2. Be sure to use an appropriate brush, preferably a back-comb or teasing brush.
3. Hold the hair firmly but gently up.
4. Start at the mid-section of the hair and work your way down with three light down strokes.
5. Continue with the remaining sections of hair.
6. Finally take the hair and lightly brush it out. Finishing up by pulling it up in a ponytail or leaving it down.
