Updated side table
Paint a side table and add a decorative motif for an instant update.
- Change the colour of your side table using paint that’s meant to adhere to the material your side table is made of.
- Allow the paint to dry completely.
- Tape or stick a decorative stencil in place.
- Dip a stencil paint brush into a contrasting paint colour, then blot most of the paint off on a paper towel.
- Lightly dab the paint brush onto the stencil, keeping the brush vertical to prevent paint from seeping in under the stencil.
- Remove the stencil while the paint is still wet.
- Allow the paint to dry completely.
Toy cubby for kids
Add legs to a laid-flat bookcase, then line it with decorative paper.
- If the bookcase has a particleboard backing, replace it with melamine for durability.
- Change the colour of your bookcase using paint that’s meant to adhere to the material your bookcase is made of.
- Drill legs into the back of the bookcase. (If you want to paint the legs the same colour as the bookcase, drill the legs in before you paint.)
- Secure the shelves in place by drilling in screws on either side (on the top and bottom of each shelf).
- Line the interior of the cubbies with decorative paper using a spray adhesive, or cut adhesive shelf liners to size.
- Spray the decorative paper with a sealant to ensure durability.
