- Vary the scale. Big and small prints work well together. Put larger floral patterns on the wall –through wallpaper or art – and smaller patterns on cushions and throws.
- Vary the texture. Layer in different textures and fabrics to add visual interest to your space.
- Use complimentary colors with the same intensity. Stick to one color palette only and be mindful of the intensity of the colors. Your room will feel much more cohesive if you go all bright or all muted/pastel.
- Add neutrals. Be sure to incorporate solid fabrics and surfaces into the space to give your eyes a place to rest. For example, keep larger furniture pieces such as your sofa and chairs solid or neutral. Use black as your grounding color to create an instant impact and avoid making the space overly feminine.
- Group items together. You can arrange your items in groups of three or four for a greater visual impact. The coffee table is a great place for creating groupings.
- It’s not just traditional. Think outside of the box! You don’t have to stick to traditional floral patterns. You can use abstract art and decor objects to convey the idea of floral instead.
