How to Help Your Makeup Survive the Summer Heat
The summer heat doesn’t mesh well with makeup. What’s the point of doing your makeup if it melts away as soon as you step into the heat? Luckily, Brittany Gray has all the tips and tricks you need to help your makeup survive the hot weather!
Step One: Skincare
Apply a lightweight (preferably water/gel-based) yet deeply nourishing moisturizer and serum at least 15-20 mins prior to your makeup routine. You want to give your skincare enough time to seep in, so that your makeup doesn’t slip and slide around your face, especially in warmer climates.

The Fancy Face Poetry In Potion serum and Daydream cream is a great option to use morning and night. It’s cooling and soothing, which is perfect for the summer months.

Right after your skincare routine, apply your protective SPF. The Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40 is a lightweight, pearlescent formula that hydrates while acting as a luminous, makeup gripping primer. Just because we’re going for sweat-proof, doesn’t mean we need to be robbed of our glow!

Next, lightly mist a setting spray onto your face to act as a temperature control shield under the makeup. When the setting spray is sprayed onto your skin, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind the polymer. The polymer droplets merge together to form a film that holds your make-up in place and provides some waterproofing power.
The Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray or the Fancy Face Forever Fancy Finishing Mist (lavender scent) are great options to use both before and after makeup.

Step Two: Primer
On a really hot day, a small amount of primer can go a long way. Ensure you only apply a very thin layer of primer. Putting on too much can make your makeup peel off your face. The opposite of what we want!
The Tatcha Silk Canvas protective primer is great for dry and dehydrated skin, and the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip primer is for combination or oily skin types.

Step 3: Foundation

Skin tints and BB creams are perfect for the summer time. When looking for products, look specifically for formulas that claim to have “all day wear” or “16-24 hour staying power”. Also, if you can find a product that says waterproof or water-resistant, you’re right on track.
The Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long Wear Makeup is perfect for summer with SPF 19. This formula is made to resist sweat and humidity. If you’re someone who needs more coverage, you can always enlist in the big sister to this formula, the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place foundation which has equal staying power but covers blemishes and discoloration better.

Step 4: Brows
No one likes a brow that’s fallen off, so you should find a brow pencil that is water-resistant, sweat-proof and smudge-proof, along with a brow gel that also has a long-wear formula. Using brow powder unfortunately won’t last the test of time in the heat. Applying a little brow pencil along with a brow gel will give you longevity so your brows don’t fall off by 2pm.
The Shape Me Up retractable pencils and Browmance Brow Gel by Fancy Face are amazing options.

Step 5: Eye Makeup
When it’s hot and sweaty outside, it’s a great time to use a waterproof mascara so you can avoid those dreaded raccoon eyes. The Milk Makeup Kush Waterproof Mascara and the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara are loved by many.

Step 6: Blush

Blush is a tricky one in the heat. Powder blush can get streaky from sweat, cream blush can slip and slide around the face. Opt for a liquid blush which will dry down to more of a long-wear, water-resistant stain. A cult favourite is the Nars Orgasm liquid blush.
