The funkier the plant, the more in demand. From neon (especially pink), miniatures, gothic/architectural, and really, the weirder the better. The more rare, the more fun.

The Monstera is both beautiful and easy to care for. If you are a plant collector and starting off with your own plants, you need the Monstera. Be sure to avoid direct sunlight with this plant and allow for the soil to be dried out between waterings.

Air plants, or Tillandsia, grow on other plants. Their origins are based in Southern U.S., Mexico, Central and South America. Its care is minimal but important, as they only need to be watered at least once per week.

Is it expensive to get into trendy plants? No, especially if you are on a budget. For example, specific succulents, such as the Pink Polkadot can start at $4. But there are more expensive plants out there. Most recently, there was a very unique plant called the Variegated Minima that was sold at an auction in New Zealand for $27,000.

The Variegated Minima is rare because of its special leaf colours. Some believe that if they can get a hold of one of these, they can create more. Plant culture is generating this need for uniqueness in gardening and plants.
