Crafty Table Runner

Since V-Day falls on a Sunday this year, you may want to have a nice family dinner. One special element you can add to the equation is a cute table runner! Here’s what you’ll need:

• Foam sheets
• Markers
• Scissors
• Wax paper
• Cardstock
• A low temperature glue gun
• Glue sticks

Once you’ve got all of your components, you’ll want to make a heart-shaped template. You can do this by folding your cardstock in half and cutting out half a heart, leaving you with a symmetrical template. Doing this in a couple of different sizes can help add visual interest.

Using a marker and the foam sheets, trace the templates and cut them out to get a collection of little hearts. Instead of scissors, you can also use a heart-shaped cookie cutter for little helpers!

Measure out a sheet of wax paper the length and width of your desired table runner and start laying the hearts on top of the paper. Once you find a layout you like, glue the hearts down with the low temperature glue gun.

Let that dry, attach it to any fabric you want, and there you have it!

A “Secret Admirer” Exchange

Much like a secret Santa, the secret admirer exchange involves drawing a name from a hat few days before the holiday. The person you draw is your Valentine, for whom you can get chocolates, flowers or a handmade gift. This is a great way to involve the whole family in the fun!

Make it a Game Night

Whether it’s trivia or board games, find a crowd pleaser and have a family game night. Charades or hide and seek are also great options!

Have a Talent Show

This activity lets everyone excel at their strengths. Magic tricks, musical performances, dance and whatever else you can think of are welcome! If you want to give out prizes in the form of Valentine’s chocolate, that’s also a great idea!

Turn it into a Dance Party

Turn down the lights, pump up the tunes and dance around! None of us do nearly enough dancing, so use this as a reminder to feel the rhythm.

Set up a Scavenger Hunt

Leave hearts, candles or whatever else you want hidden around the house with clues to their whereabouts. Think of it as practice for Easter egg hunting!
