You can DIY this very same look at a fraction of the price with a mirror you already have or sourcing from your local thrift store. If you are going for an exact copy cat of the anthro one, you are going to want to find a mirror that is rounded on the top and flat on the bottom and it should also have a thin frame. However its also nice to take inspiration from the original and add your own flair to it.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• A mirror
• 4 wood appliques for corners (click here to purchase)
• 1 wood applique for top (click here to purchase)
• Gold water based paint
• Gorilla glue
• Painters tape

Step #1: Clean the Mirror

This step should be obvious, but just make sure to thoroughly clean the mirror and the frame before you begin. The main reason is if there is dust the paint won’t stick. You may have to sand down the finish a bit with fine grit sandpaper

Step #2: Tape the Mirror

Using painters tape, tape around the mirror. This will keep paint on the frame but not on the mirror. You ca also add newspaper to the mirror surface to help prevent paint on it.

Step #3: Measure the Top

Run a measuring tape across the top of the mirror and mark the centre. This is where you’ll glue the centre of the top applique.

Step #4: Glue the Centre

The Anthropologie mirror has a peak at the top, so make sure not to glue the top half to the frame. Instead, only glue the bottom third. Use your measuring tape to make sure that both sides are even. Then glue the wood accents on using the gorillas glue. This stuff is serious – it looks very simple, but it sticks like crazy!!!

*Tip*: Gorilla glue dries quick, but having a clean rag or paper towels on-hand can make cleanup even quicker. Try to wipe up as much as possible while the glue’s wet. You should then be able to wash away any residue with soapy water.

Step #5: Attach the Corner Pieces

Using the same method as step 4, glue all four of the corner pieces. I let about 1/4 inch of the top pieces extend off the top of the mirror to add a little bit more shape to the mirror. This is completely optional but just make sure that you aren’t adding glue to any piece of the appliques if they aren’t going to be touching the actual frame.

Step #6: Dry for 2.5 Hours

Once the accents are on you are going to need to wait for these to dry. It feels like they are never going to dry…then boom! Its solid.

Step #7: Paint

Once the glue is completely dry, it’s time to paint! Make sure you have a blanket or tarp beneath the mirror before you paint. Make sure you have a rag with you. Now depending on the type of frame you have, you might want to do a primer coat first. If the frame is super dark it will really help!

Step #8: Remove Tape

Once the paint is completely dry, remove the the tape. At this point your project is complete and you can either hang your mirror or display it wherever you’d like! – and count the money you have saved!
