It’s pretty standard to get winter accessories like touques, gloves, and socks during the holidays. This is an easy DIY to kick up your touque game and make your gift a little more personal and special!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pearl embellishments
- Needle and thread
- Touque and gloves set
- Scissors
Step #1: Lay Out and Space Your Pearls
You want to lay down your pearls and space them around evenly. You don’t have to put them in straight rows but once you lay them down you’ll see the spacing you like. If you choose to use a variety of pearl colours, be sure to think about how you space the different colours so you don’t have one area of your hat concentrated with one colour.
Once you have everything spaced out the way you like I suggest taking a photo with your phone to remember the spacing, it’s great to use it as a reference sewing on the beads.
Step #2: Sew on Pearls
Using your needle and thread, hand sew the pearls onto your hat. It’s good to use thread that matches your pearls so you may have a few colours of thread if you have several pearl colours. That reference photo is especially useful if you’re using different pearl colours.

Here’s what you’ll need:
- Red felt (or colour of choice)
- A sheet of cardstock Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- A pair of thick socks
Step #1: Make the Heart Template
This may take some back to the school days. You simply fold the paper in half and trace half of a heart and cut it out and you have your template!
Step #2: Cut out Felt Heart
Fold your piece of felt in half so that you have two layers to make 2 hearts. Using your heart template, cut out your hearts. If you’d like, you can trace the heart out first with marker then cut your hearts out.
Step #3: Sew on Hearts
Grab your needle and thread and sew them onto the sock just above the heel. Because the socks are thick you don’t need to sew right through the sock. Instead you can weave the needle in and out through the outside of the sock rather than pulling.
