So what do you do when you get a Christmas gift that isn’t quite you? You DIY it into something you’d actually want. Monique Taylor Yee-Shui is showing you how to do just that, in a way that will keep you warm this season.
Here is what you’ll need:

- Faux fur trim
- Felt
- A headband
- A pair of scissors
- A glue gun
- Needle and thread
- Circle template
- Stuffing
- Marker for tracing
- Something round to make a circle template (like a cup)
Step #1: Preparing Felt and Fur
First, you want to fold your piece of felt in half so that you have two layers. This will make the base of the earmuff. Using your circle template, trace out 2 circles and cut them out.

Because everyone’s ears are different, I suggest measuring out a circle size that works for you – I played around with sizes a few times from candle jars to top of snack containers – just hold it up to your ears and you’ll know what size you’ll like.
After you’ve cut out your felt circles, you should have 4 felt circles in total. Next take your fur trim or fabric and similar to your felt, trace and cut 2 circles out.
Step #2: Sew The Felt

Using your needle and thread, sew your pairs of felt circles together. Sew about 3/4 of the seam together leaving an opening at the top. Once sewn, flip the felt inside out so that your seam isn’t exposed. This will make your pouch for the stuffing!
Repeat this for the other pair of felt circles and then we are onto our next step which is gluing on the fur.
Step #3: Add Fur

Apply glue onto the backside of your fur circle and stick to felt and you’re going to repeat with the other fur and sewn felt circle.
I got this trim at my local fabric store and it was quite wide so I just cut the circles out of it. This can also be done with fur trim that is available that looks like a rope, you would just glue the fur onto the circle in a spiral motion until the felt is covered.
Step #4: Stuff The Muffs

So now that the glue is dry on our muffs, we can now stuff them with pillow stuffing! Once they are both stuffed I like to add in the step of sizing it.
So because we’re working with a headband we need to figure out roughly where we want our muffs to sit on our ears. I do that by putting the headband loosely inside the padded fur circles and putting it on our head to see where the muffs hit on my head.
Step #5: Finish Off Muffs

Once we have everything aligned, apply some glue to the bottom part of the headband and secure it into the middle of the stuffing.
Once the glue has dried, sew up the hole and you’re done! No need to worry if you’re not a neat sewer, the faux fur hides all the stitches!
