A Modern Holiday Hoop Light DIY

Make your holidays merry... and bright!

If you’re looking for some festive ways to light up your home this year, Christian Dare is showing you two DIY’s that you can make yourself!

Modern Holiday Hoop Lights

This is perfect in a dark corner of your home to spread joy or even bedside instead of a table lamp. They are easy to do and cost very little – under $10 per light hoop.

Here is what you’ll need:

Step #1:

The secret to this hoop light is the embroidery hoops. You want to hang at least two different sizes, although if you have space I would recommend 3. For my light, I used a 13” hoop, a 10” hoop and a 7” hoop.

Tip: You can also use metal wreath hoops

Step #2:

To paint or not to paint, that is the question. You can leave the hoops in their natural finish or you could opt to stain or paint them. Consider your décor and I suggest making it a match. For the one I made, I spray painted mine in aged brass.

Tip: Be sure to spray paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and wear a mask and safety glasses

Step #3:

Next, you are going to wrap them rings with low voltage fairy lights. I would suggest battery-operated lights.

Step #4:

Once all your lights are fully wrapped, hang them from the ceiling at three different heights. I would recommend using command hooks, as they won’t leave any marks on your ceiling when you take them down after the holidays. I opted to hang mine with a fishing line to give them that floating look, but you could also hang them with a beautiful ribbon.

Tip: Use a ribbon to hang can help hide the battery pack.
