The COVID-19 pandemic may have put a stop to large social gatherings like Pride parades and other events, but that doesn’t mean Pride is cancelled. Educating yourself on the history of Pride and the important fight for equality is still so important. Celebrating the joy of your community, creating a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ people and maintaining a focus on activities to bring a sense of connection is key. Designer Shai Deluca shares the best ways to celebrate Pride while social distancing.
- Now that we are able to congregate in our social bubble, consider inviting your bubble to your event.
- Get dressed up with some of your favourite pride gear. Consider statement shirts with positive messages as they are all the rage now. Get your message across by creating your own and supporting a local business to get them printed.
- Create a donation pool for your “Attendees” to donate to the many LGBT causes out there.
- Support LGBT small businesses.
- Educate yourself on the history of Pride. This year, I am choosing to go to our black-trans peoples who are some of the most persecuted people in the LGBT community.
- Visit Stonewall virtually from home.
- Have a “night out” while staying in at club Quarantine, or another virtual party.
- Create rainbow themed menus and decor.
- Keep cool, and hydrate in non-conventional ways.
- Drag performers have been experiencing hardship. Support your local drag artists, virtually. Many artists are performing on social media and need our support! Tips can be made via cash transfer apps.
