Use These Retail Store Tricks To Reorganize Your Closet
Shopping in your own closet is the best place to ‘shop’ when money is tight! Digging through items you forgot you had and to try them on only to remember why you bought them in the first place is exhilarating! So Mosha’s favourite approach at a time like this is to turn your closet into your new favourite store.
For example, when you travel you’re limited to one — potentially very full — suitcase. It is a liberating feeling to see that your suitcase hasn’t surpassed that 50-pound mark when the airline flight crewmember exhaustingly lifts your suitcase. It’s liberating to know that you have taken fewer things with you but they’re typically your favourite pieces. Fewer things to look through and fewer things to try on is always better!
Back to your current closet situation, the main organizing method for your closet means arranging absolutely everything! That includes organizing shoes and accessories, first by colour according to the order to the rainbow, then by style. Also, the direction clothes face is based upon the arm you naturally use to reach for them. If you are right-handed, clothes should all hang facing to the left. Listen to your clothes and let the fabric dictate what you hang versus fold. Like a store, shirts, dresses, jackets, trousers and skirts should all be hung up. However, things that can be folded are denim and knitwear. It is important to limit your drawer space as they’re basically black holes — a place when you forget and lose things. Items such as lingerie, pyjamas, activewear, loungewear, can all be placed in drawers; think of it as your shop’s “back stock”.
Small investments to accessorize your closet make a big difference:

Even if you don’t want to start purging and now is a great time to start giving things away to your local shelter or resell, clearing out your closet can go a long way! Organize your wardrobe so it only contains your essential and favourite pieces that you would buy again if they were in a store. Moving everything else to the storage is an excellent start. Organizing your closet will lead to smarter shopping because you can identify what you have and what you need. This way, you can put your money towards wiser investments! Make a list of what you need to avoid excess purchasing! Organize your shopping list into 4 categories: Investments, Staples, Trend, Occasion.
It is so much easier to feel motivated and good about your space when everything you own is organized! Don’t be afraid to wear many pieces and outfits over and over again, that’s actually a marker of good taste. Thinking of your favourite fashion icons Michelle Obama or maybe Audrey Hepburn? What makes them icons is their ability to wear the same pieces time and time again and effectively stick to a consistent look.
There’s no better time than now to be grateful for everything we have. Your favourite things tell your story and giving them pride of place is a lovely daily visual reminder of this!
