Instructions

  1. Start by deciding how many lights you want to make and the size. The one I created for the show was made up from a 14”, 8” and 5” bowls and one dome canopy.
  2. Find the center of each bowl, add masking tape and mark the center. You want it to be the exact center or it won’t hang properly.
  3. Pre drill the middle with a smaller drill bit 5/68” – this is to create a pilot hole to ensure the larger drill bit stays centered when you drill.
  4. Now drill your 1/8” hole.
  5. Remove tape.
  6. Spray paint select bowls in colours you like – brass, black or leave them silver. Do this outside for good ventilation. Do it in smaller strips and not too close to avoid drips.
  7. Once fully dry – you can start to thread your lamp. Basically you want to start by adding the largest bowl to the bottom of the threaded rod and add a nut to keep it in place.
  8. Now flip the 8” bowl and add it the top of the largest bowl. Secure it with a nut on the inside of the bowl. Basically you have now attached two bowls together – bottom to bottom.
  9. Add a nut 4” above the top rim of your medium bowl. This is where the canopy will sit. No need to be exact – you can eyeball what distance looks good. Add a nut on top of it to hold it in place.
  10. Add your smallest bowl to the top of the rod and hold it in place with two nuts.
  11. Now you should have your fixture.
  12. Thread the wire from the lighting kit up through the threaded nipple.
  13. Have a licensed electrician install in your ceiling.
