The top 6 shades of grey for your home

Gray continues to be the hottest neutral in fashion. Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore Media Spokesperson and Colour Expert, shares the top six shades of gray for your home.

Gray continues to be the hottest neutral in home fashion.  It’s the perfect way to add drama to a space without stealing the show! However, when it comes to choosing the right gray paint, it can be a little overwhelming as there are hundreds to choose from.

The key to finding the perfect gray is determining the undertone that best suits your space.  The most popular grays are not just simply gradients of black and white instead they are comprised of other pigments that add to the complexity and appeal.  For instance, warm grays often have a slight red or yellow undertone, like Barren Plain 2111-60 as opposed to a cooler gray like Silver Gray 2131-60 with it’s blue undertone.

When choosing a gray paint colour, be sure to view your options at home and compare the paint chips to other furniture and textile items in the space to determine which colour compliments best. Paint colour should never been chosen in isolation.  I always suggest purchasing a paint Colour Sample so you can try the colour on for size before committing to gallons of paint!

*Revere Pewter HC-172 has been Benjamin Moore’s most popular grey for many years. It is a classic, warm gray with a beige undertone. It coordinates with both industrial and more natural materials like steel, concrete, glass, pebbles and driftwood.

*Gray Cloud 2126-60 is a true neutral gray, which in fact appears on the cool side, having only black and white pigments in it’s make-up. Neutral grays, rather stark on their own,  can be warmed up by adding accents of red, orange or yellow in values from bold to pale.
