Coffee benefits
Eat Clean Tip #28:
Studies have shown that drinking coffee can boost metabolism by 3 to 11%!
Eat clean action step: Coffee can dehydrate your system. For every cup of coffee you drink, make sure you add in one extra glass of water.
Good news – coffee consumption can have beneficial health effects when consumed in moderation. One cup of coffee per day can help to increase physical performance and is also rich in anti-oxidants. Various studies have shown coffee drinkers suffer less depression, less risk for diabetes and an improvement in memory.
Although coffee indeed does have its benefits, there are some downsides to consider as well. An excess consumption of coffee (greater than 2 cups per day) can cause dehydration, headaches, dizziness, anxiety and can interrupt sleep.
What you put in your coffee also matters for health. Opt for coconut sugar (a lower glycemic index sugar) vs. regular sugar. You can also sweeten your coffee with some cinnamon, which is excellent for blood sugar control. For a creamy coffee taste – opt for coconut oil (see recipe below), unsweetened almond or cashew milk or skim milk.
Not a coffee lover? No problem! Tea is also a great option and provides us with a lot of the same benefits that coffee does. Try having one cup of black or green tea each day.
