The word “chia” is derived from the ancient Mayan word for strength. This seed is one of the richest sources of omega 3 fat (essential fatty acid) available and is also high in soluble fiber, which promotes digestive health. Studies have also found that chia may be able to improve metabolic health and reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Two tablespoons of chia seeds provide roughly 18 percent of the daily-recommended value for calcium, and roughly 11 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein and 9 grams of fat.
This small seed is easy to make into a pudding, added as a topping or can be mixed into your baking.
