Having a strong relationship with your wedding planner is essential to ensuring your wedding is nothing short of perfect. However, there are many things most weddings planners wish they had the opportunity to say to their clients. Wedding planner Rebecca Chan shares five things your wedding planner probably wants to tell you, but hasn’t.
1. Be nice
This is a service-oriented industry that is all about the relationships you make. Keep in mind that your wedding planner is helping you put together one of the biggest and most beautiful days of your life and it is important to treat them appropriately. No one wants to work with a bridezilla or groomzilla!
It is important that you are authentic when you make an inquiry, it’s not all about pricing with your wedding planner, it’s about you and the connection you have. Plus, planners might be more willing to do something a little extra for someone who is nicer in their approach.
2. Share your inspirations
You don’t have to have a themed wedding, but it is helpful for wedding planners and photographers if you share elements that are important to you. Having special moments in your life or specific venues that you can suggest make a wedding planner’s job a little easier. It is easy to tie things together when the day has a focus.
3. Last minute weddings are hard to plan
Last minute weddings can be done, but they are very difficult for planners to pull together. There are advantages and disadvantages to putting a wedding together in a couple of weeks, or months. The decision process is simpler for the bride and groom when there is less time until the wedding, but it is a lot more work for the wedding planner and for that reason, the price is the same for a last minute wedding.
4. You get what you pay for
Your wedding is one of the biggest days in your life and it is important that you don’t sacrifice on anything you love. It is essential that you do lots of research and if you find that a vendor is much cheaper than all the rest, you must ask why. Are they lacking experience, are they just starting out, or are they just a good deal?
You cannot redo your wedding so you have to make sure you pay for things you really care about.
5. Your wedding planner is not Jennifer Lopez
Whenever people hear wedding planner, they envision J-Lo in the movie “The Wedding Planner” with a headset on running around in her heels but, unfortunately for everyone, that is not the case. The job of a wedding planner is not glamorous – it entails a lot of hard work, especially on the day of the wedding. A wedding planner is the person who runs around getting your favours done and makes sure everything runs smoothly. Wedding planning is extremely challenging, but equally as fulfilling.
