7 kitchen hacks that will change your life

DIY diva Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault is saving our lives in the kitchen with these seven fun and trendy hacks!

DIY diva Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault shares seven kitchen hacks that will change your life, for everything from storing spinach to cutting cake with dental floss.

1. Make a drink inside a watermelon

Keep this in mind for your next summer party! All you have to do is cut a hole in the top of a watermelon, attach a whisk to your power drill and give the inside a whirl. Mix to your desired consistency. Pour and serve!

2. Floss isn’t only for your teeth

Cut your cake into perfect pieces using unflavoured dental floss. To avoid getting dry, crusty pieces of cake when you put it in the fridge, cut rectangle pieces from the middle of the cake and push the cake together until the next time you’re craving a slice.

3. Keep your cake moist

If you prefer triangle pieces, but don’t want your cake to dry out, attach pieces of bread to the exposed pieces and your cake will stay fresh and moist!

4. A tear-free way to cut onions

The new, trendy way to avoid crying when you’re chopping onions is to put a piece of bread in your mouth. It will absorb everything that usually stimulates your tears, plus you get to enjoy a snack while cooking!

5. Rub away the smell of garlic and onion

It has never been easier to wash the smell of garlic and onion off of your hands. All you have to do is rub your hands on stainless steel to get rid of the potent smell. If you don’t have anything stainless steel laying around (and don’t want to slice your hands using a knife), there are products like the Rub Away available for this!

6. Keep your boxed lettuce fresh

Place a piece of paper towel on top of your lettuce and store upside down in the fridge to keep it fresher up to one week longer!

7. Keep your favourite snacks fresh

A great new way to keep your chips and popcorn fresh is to attach the plastic top of your baby wipes package, stick it on the middle of the bag, and cut a hole through the opening!
