When it comes to organizing your bedroom and bathroom, Karine Ewart says the key is to be thoughtful.
As in: think of items that could do double-duty to help clear the clutter, and remember that everything should have its place.
Here are just a few of the Chatelaine editor-in-chief’s ingenious ideas that make use of existing items in the home, while creating a beautiful, streamlined space:
Teacups as jewellery storage: Do you collect pretty teacups or bowls? Put them on display in your bedroom by using them to house your rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
Glass jars for socks: An unexpected but surprisingly practical way to keep your socks paired up and organized.
Decorative boxes and baskets for accessories: If you have boxes with clear fronts, all the better, as you’ll be able to see what’s inside. If not, consider taking a photo of the contents and posting it on the front of the box. Put boxes and baskets with seasonal items on the top shelf of your closet, out of the way.
Vases can store toilet paper: It’s always handy to store extra rolls of toilet paper in the bathroom, but you don’t need to purchase a separate holder for this. Re-use a wide-mouth vase, filling it up with spare rolls.
Cake stands for makeup and creams: How often do you really use that tiered cake stand? Make it more efficient by turning it into a beautiful storage solution for your cosmetics and creams. Storage options with height are particularly handy in small spaces.
