Get active with Cityline and the #100ActiveDays challenge!

Tracy and some of our crew are embarking on a 100-day challenge to do at least one active thing every single day for the next 100 days. Join us!

Here at Cityline we’re always talking about the importance of staying active, but we know that sometimes it’s hard to find the motivation. Let us introduce you to our new “kick in the butt” motivator: the #100ActiveDays challenge! Tracy and some of our crew are embarking on a 100-day challenge to do at least one active thing every single day for the next 100 days. It can be literally anything — walking, running, dancing, biking, swimming, yoga, or even push-ups and/or crunches right before bed! Work or live on the 4th floor? Start taking the stairs instead of the elevator!

No matter what level of fitness you’re at or what amount of time you have to spare for exercise, we know that you can do one active thing each and every day for the next 100 days. And because we always believe in putting our money where our mouths are, we’ll be documenting our progress with the challenge throughout the next 100 days. Starting today (June 11, 2014) you’ll be seeing regular updates from Tracy, along with our web team Suzanne Ellis, Suzie Gardner, and Ali Davies, here on Cityline.ca, as well as on our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages.

Read on below for a little bit from each of us about why we’re participating in this challenge, and we hope you’ll join in, too! We’d love to see your photos throughout your 100 days (regardless of when you start, but we recommend you start soon because it’s so much more fun to be active in the summer!), so make sure you use the hashtag #100ActiveDays and tag @CitylineCA when you post. You can also always email photos to us at submissions@cityline.ca. Let’s get active together!

Tracy: I am always looking for a fitness challenge. I am also always looking for a cookie. But the two (hopefully?) cancel each other out. I digress. Today I was chatting with Cityline’s world-class web team and they shared with me an idea to post something active on my social media accounts for the next 100 days. This, to me, is heaven. I love being fit but I don’t like to shove it in people’s faces. Guess what? This challenge allows me to talk fitness without being a boastful bore! Everyone can use a little inspiration and with the #100activedays challenge I’ll be pushing myself to stay true to my love of fitness EVERY DAY. Now also understand that being active includes walking up stairs, gardening and drinking wine (ok maybe not that last one). So I feel this will be a totally do-able challenge. Are you onboard? Post your picture or active thought on Twitter or Instagram and tag @CitylineCA and @tracycityline in it. Also hashtag it: #100ActiveDays. Check out our first day’s post above. Push-ups…in heels!

Suzanne: I am so excited to be doing #100ActiveDays! Here’s why: when it comes to fitness I’m…inconsistent. I’ll go for a great run, and then sit on my butt and do nothing for two weeks. I’ll decide I’m going to start walking to work, and then do it for three days before reaching for my Metropass. But taking on this challenge with my fab Cityline colleagues, and all of you who join in, will keep me on track. I don’t want to be the one that wusses out on Day 5! I also love the idea that this can be anything we want it to be – from a set of pushups or jumping jacks, to taking the stairs at work, to sprinting up the hill at my local park. Maybe also walking to Ed’s Real Scoop for ice cream? No? Ok, fine. My frequent scooper card was filling up at an alarming rate, anyway. Looking forward to seeing and reading about everyone’s daily dose of fitness! Follow my progress on Twitter and Instagram. Good luck, all! #100ActiveDays

Suzie: Those who know me will know that I have a competitive side. Whether it’s playing a board game or running a race, I always love to win — even if it’s just against myself and my own personal best time! And that’s why I’m super excited to do the #100ActiveDays challenge — I really want to compete against my lazy tendencies and get my butt in gear at least once a day. Can I do it for 100 straight days? I don’t know, but I’m sure excited to find out! I know that doing it with my Cityline crew and you viewers at home will help motivate me. We really would love to see what you’re doing to keep active, so be sure to send us in photos! To kick things off, I’m going to a yoga class tonight — and tomorrow? Well, I’m tempted to say that my exercise will be walking to the crepe restaurant that’s at the bottom of my condo building (it only opened a couple of weeks ago and I think I’m almost single-handedly keeping them in business), but I’m not sure that’s far enough of a walk. Keep tabs on my personal progress on Twitter and Instagram. Let’s rock this!

Ali: When the Cityline web team discussed joining forces to take on the #100ActiveDays challenge, I knew I had (and should) get involved. I am currently in the midst of training for Tough Mudder (I know, I signed up for it in November and now there is no turning back) and need a little inspiration to hit the gym more than couple times a week. With this challenge, I plan to redefine my exercise regime. I have what I like to call “commitment issues” with exercise. I can’t even fathom doing the same workout day after day, so this conquest will not only test my physically ability, but also my creativity. With that being said, I hereby state that I am fully committed to the #100ActiveDays—no matter how much I want to crawl into bed and eat copious amounts of Doritos. For the days I can’t make it to the gym, I promise to walk to work rather than taking the subway, take my dog for a lengthy walk, or do a couple laps of walking lunges around my kitchen while my food cooks—hey, any activity counts right?! You can follow my progress through my Twitter (@alexandravies) where I will be posting my DAILY workouts and some tips that help me stay focused for these next 100 days. Let’s get active, people!

We want you to get active with us! Share your photos or stories on Twitter or Instagram and tag @CitylineCA and @tracycityline. And be sure to use the hashtag #100ActiveDays!
