True or false: Hair myths
Are you constantly trying to find a way to give yourself that luscious head of hair you see in commercials? If you are, you’re not alone. With the dry winters here in Canada, it’s especially hard for us to maintain a fresh and healthy-looking head of hair. We want you to get the results you’re looking for so Tracy chatted with hairstylist Phillipe Fiorio, to get the truth behind some hair myths.
True or False: Your hair can get used to one type of shampoo.
True! Phillipe suggests changing your shampoo with the season. Winter is obviously a dryer season, so go with a cream shampoo that will moisturize your hair. In the summer, you’re going to want to look for a lighter shampoo that is more cleansing. Natural products are making a statement in today’s market, so start to look for shampoos that are sulfate-free and carry natural ingredients. Also, check around your salon — sometimes they have samples that you can test out before making the purchase.

True or False: Split ends can be mended with hair products.
False! Split ends cannot be mended with hair products, but they can be masked. Unfortunately, the only way to fix split ends is by cutting your hair. If you wait too long, the split end will actually start to split up the shaft of your hair resulting in you getting more cut off than you really want to. Split ends are natural as your hair gets weaker and grows away from the root –using heat applications over time also weakens the hair. To prevent your split ends from getting worse, make sure when you’re combing and brushing you go right through the hair. Phillipe explains that most people stop at the bottom of their hair and this is another reason which causes more split ends.
True or False: Daily shampooing daily dries out your hair.
True! Phillipe says that by washing your hair every day, you’re actually stripping your hair of its natural oils and in result, your body thinks that it needs to create more oils. The less you wash your hair, the less oily it will be! Phillipe suggests to try washing your hair every 2-3 days. If you’re someone who goes to the gym frequently and needs to wash their hair every day, find the right shampoo to keep it balanced.
