Vacations can be some of the best times in our lives and so we often bring back souvenirs to remember them by. However, not all souvenirs are tasteful, and often they don’t fit into our home décor. Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault shows us fun and stylish ways to incorporate our travel finds into our living space.
Map frame
Materials:
- Paper map
- ModPodge matte glue, available at Walmart
- Scissors
- 1″ foam paint brush
- RIBBA frame from IKEA
- Sand paper
- Package of small letter stickers from Dollarama
Method:
Remove the glass from the frame and scuff the frame edges with fine grit sand paper.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Measure the width of the side, front, and inner lip of the frame.
Then measure the length of each side of the frame.
Cut strips of the map to the length and width of your measurements and add a half inch extra to wrap around the back.
Starting on one side, apply the ModPodge glue on the frame side, front and inner edge and then carefully place a strip of the map down on top.
Smooth out any air bubbles gently using your fingertips.
Continue adding the glue and strips to the 3 remaining sides.
Once dry, trim any excess paper.
Replace the glass, add a photo to the frame and for an added touch, use peel-and-stick stickers on the outside of the glass to denote the travel destination.
Photo letter matting
Materials:
- Black matte paper, available at Walmart
- Scissors and/or exacto knife
- Large letter stencils, or just print large letters on your computer and cut them out as a template
- Tape
Method:
Measure the size of your photo opening to determine what size of letter will fit.
Using a letter stencil of the appropriate size, or one that you have printed yourself on a computer, trace the letter onto the black matte paper.
Cut out the letter shape from the matte paper with either scissors of an exacto knife.
Place the cut-out letter into the photo frame opening and secure with tape.
Finally, place your travel photo in behind to peek out of the letter opening.
Fun tip: Customize your travel photos by using the three-letter designation for the airport you traveled to!
