How to embellish a simple throw blanket
There are great throw blankets on sale everywhere these days, and as Mary Dobson notes, a great way to customize a space is to customize your throws.
Here are Mary’s suggestions for how to dress up a basic throw:
Flat, melton cloth-type throws are great for adding a banded border or for adding an applique or embroidery. Add a monogram with iron-on letters from the fabric store. They are peel-and-stick so you can play with the placement before you commit with the iron. Be cautious with the temperature of the iron or even use a press cloth to avoid melting of synthetic fibers.

Open-weave throws can be given a custom detail by simply weaving several rows of grosgrain ribbon through the loose yarns. Simply hand-stitch the ribbon in place at either end.
For throws with a fringe or tassels, add 6 or 8 contrast colour tassels, evenly spaced along each end. A few hand stitches are all that are needed.
