Toxins can be found everywhere in our home, health expert Bryce Wylde says. “Instead of running out to the health food store and buying the latest detox, why don’t we minimize on the toxins that are in our households?” he suggests.
Here’s Bryce’s advice for combating household toxins:
Wash your fruits and vegetables
“Beyond pesticides, there is coliform and E. coli bacteria found not only in the soil the vegetables and fruits grow in but also from the handlers.” says Bryce. It might feel a little silly, but Bryce recommends using loofah gloves to scrub your produce. Bryce also notes that it’s very important to wash your fruits and vegetables before you peel them.
Avoid volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
“Volatile organic compounds are found all over the place” says Bryce. He continues, “If it says use in a ventilated area, please use it in a ventilated area!” These compounds can actually lead to cancer so it’s best to avoid them if possible.
Bryce recommends using baking powder and vinegar as an all natural, non-VOC cleaner.
Purchase a reverse osmosis water device
There is a huge difference between clean and pure water! Using a reverse osmosis water device removes everything from your water. Also try to stay away from plastic water bottles — not only are they bad for the environment, nobody really knows how the plastic bottles are affecting us.
BPA and plastics
“My opinion? Avoid all plastics! At the end of the day, we don’t know what they are doing to us. We don’t know that they’re safe, we just know that they haven’t yet caused significant harm,” says Bryce. Instead, go glass or porcelain when your storing foods and drinks.
