Did you know that Vitamin B, Vitamin D and Iron are the three most common vitamins that women are deficient in? Laurie Jennings, health editor from Chatelaine stresses the importance of getting your vitamins.  The first way to go about getting your vitamins is by following a healthy diet by including as many “superfoods” as you can such as salmon, spinach, eggs and whole grains to get your vitamins naturally.

Aside from consuming vitamins naturally through your foods, Laurie has eight supplements she recommends for women: Vitamin D, Vitamin B, Iron, Omega-3 fish oils, probiotics, magnesium, multi-vitamins and coenzyme q10. “We’re all working like crazy, we’re all stressed out, we can’t rely on diet alone the way we could years ago,” Laurie explains.

Vitamins aren’t as boring as you may remember them; there are many fun ways to get your vitamins for adults and kids. You can find gummy forms of most vitamins, and Laurie recommends the gummy D vitamins, adding that “most Canadians are deficient [in vitamin D] because it’s the sunshine vitamin and we don’t get a lot of that.”

Magnesium is another vitamin that Laurie recommends supplementing. You can take it through dissolving a magnesium tablet in a glass of water. Laurie recommends taking your magnesium and calcium at the same time as it helps with absorption. “If you take magnesium at the end of the day it will help you wind down and relax,” she adds.

Laurie says that it’s important to listen to your body to give you signals about your vitamin and supplement intake. You don’t want to take too much! Laurie notes that if you’re feeling a little bit hyper one day, it might mean you took too much Vitamin B.
