Designer looks might look gorgeous on the runway, but when it comes to real life, those outfits are often hard for us to pull off at the office or on the weekends. Chatelaine‘s Tyler Franch shows us four styles that are heating up the runways, and how you can work them into your regular wardrobe.
Punk: It can be easy to overdo it with this look! The key is to find one punk-inspired piece, such as a houndstooth-printed skirt, and pair it with a nice button-up shirt and black blazer. “You don’t have to wear the leather pants with the plaid,” explains Tyler. “You don’t need to wear spikes; you don’t need to go all out. Pick something from this trend and build your wardrobe around it.”
Menswear: How do you wear a menswear-inspired outfit while still looking feminine? It’s all about the accents! From girly shoes and floral details, to defined waists and a-line shapes, it’s important that your look is adapted to the feminine form. “That’s something to look for when you’re shopping for menswear-inspired items,” says Tyler. “It doesn’t have to be menswear all over. You can actually still get a nice, tailored silhouette.”
Moto: The motorcycle jacket is everywhere right now, and it’s also really easy to wear it to the office: just wear it instead of your usual black blazer! Tyler recommends finding a jacket that’s soft and not too structured. It’s a great way to add some funk to your look, without being too over the top.
Tuxedo: This menswear look is super glamourous for evening, and it’s particularly trendy with a cropped pant. Show off those sexy ankles! Another great thing about a suit is that you can break apart each piece and wear them as separates with other outfits. We love getting more bang for our buck!
