Essential fashion pieces for fall

Tyler Franch breaks down the hot items you should have in your closet this fall!

This fall, ladylike looks are everywhere, whether in the form of floral dresses, blouses, or kitten heels.

Chatelaine assistant fashion editor Tyler Franch brought some of the trendiest items he saw in stores to Cityline, providing style inspiration for when it comes time to add pieces to our closet for fall.

“The ladylike trend is something that’s quite retro, but we’re seeing it now with lots of great updates,” Franch says.

That means you can wear those classic pieces, if you already have them in your wardrobe, as long as you add a few new accessories to keep the look fresh, and not steeped in the ’60s.

When you’re looking for a suit, Franch suggests buying matching separates. That way you can wear the items together or individually, mixing them up for a more casual look on the weekends.

Burgundy is a great colour trend for fall — look for it shoes, bags, or clothing details such as trim on a jacket pocket.

Another trend that’s hot right now is menswear-inspired looks — heavier tweeds and herringbone patterns — on feminine silhouettes.

There are few things more ladylike than the classic twinset. To update this wardrobe staple, add a statement-making necklace.

Two more must-haves? A great blazer that can take you from the workday to an evening out, and a beautiful scarf that can elevate any outfit.
