Having a peaceful sleep when you’re pregnant is often a challenge, as many mothers know.  Sandra Martin from Today’s Parent shared some of her tips for getting better sleep during pregnancy.

Skin sensitivity is increased during pregnancy.  Increased blood flow can mean the body is up to 50% hotter, so thinking about what you are wearing to bed can really help alleviate discomfort.  Many stores now offer a pajama with a soft fabric for skin sensitivities, and an easy access nursing panel which would be useful straight through child birth.

Throughout the duration of pregnancy, your breasts enlarge significantly.  Purchasing a few nursing bras is important to support the added weight.  Nursing bras don’t have clasps, so you wouldn’t have metal digging into your back while you are sleeping.

Thin and easy layers allow you to adjust your clothing accordingly as your body’s internal temperature fluctuates.  Maternity stores sell comfortable and fashionable nursing tanks that are ideal to wear through your pregnancy and post-child birth.

Purchasing an ambient sound machine can help soothe you and the baby, with sounds programmed for the beach, forest, ocean, and even a steady heartbeat.

Lastly, if you are experiencing back pain, a body pillow can help with discomfort.  Place it between your legs to keep your legs aligned and support your hips.
