DIY  Decoupage Chair

Materials Required:

An interesting but inexpensive chair

Polyvinyl Acetate Glue (Elmer’s Glue All)

Mod Podge Matte or Gloss Waterbase sealer,glue and finish

Utility knife, scissors, and metal edge ruler

Tweezers (to help position small pictures)

Foam Brush or paint brush (to apply glue / mod podge )

Brayer (Optional)

Popsicle Sticks (to smooth out and remove excessive glue)

Damp Rag / Sponge (to remove excessive glue and help with cleanup)

Krylon Low Odor Clear Matte  spray

Instructions:

1.    Using scissors, utility knife and ruler, cut out  interesting pictures, text, etc. to decoupage

2.    Spread a  layer of glue onto a small section of the chair (you can also spread glue to the backside of the pictures)

3.    Carefully place the pictures (working in small sections at a time) onto the chair section to glue in place. Use the tweezers  to position and overlap pictures if desired.

4.    Using your fingers, popsicle sticks and /or breyer, start from the center of the picture and gently smooth to remove air bubbles and excess glue.   Let completely dry.

5.    Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to seal down all picture edges for a smooth finish. Let dry and repeat if desired for a smoother durable effect.

6.    Spray on a thin top coat  of acrylic spray for added protection

DIY “Faux” Decoupage French Chair

Materials Required:

A clear acrylic / plastic chair  (Philippe  Starck’s Louis Ghost Chair)

A newspaper (La Presse) / French Fashion Magazines

Utility Knife , Scissors, Metal Edge Ruler

Double Sided Removable Tape  (Scotch brand Poster Tape)

Instructions:

1. Using scissors, utility knife and ruler, cut out  newspaper / magazine pages to fit the backsides / undersides of a  clear acrylic chair.  Option:  you can cut strips of paper to create a fabulous cane-back  effect

2. Position  the newspaper cut outs into place and affix with removable double sided tape.

3. To create a stunning cane-back effect, cut straight long strips of paper i.e. 1” wide and affix to the chair in vertical and horizontal bands 1” apart across the backsides / undersides of the chair.
